BEPA - About Us
|
|
The Business Emergency Planning Association helps business and industry
prepare for, respond to, and recover from business interruptions resulting
from natural or man-made disasters, terrorism, information technology
failures, and other crisis events.
It provides a forum for education and for networking opportunities among
its business and industry members, non-profits, vendors and government
agencies.
Nearly 200 member organizations concerned with business continuity
participate in the activities that include:
- Monthly workshops, lectures and seminars that cover
topics ranging from plan development to site recovery and
restoration. Issues such as critical stress debriefing and
media relations are also discussed.
- An annual Business Disaster Recovery Planning Conference
that helps attendees develop their plans through sessions on
a variety of contingency planning topics. There also are
opportunities to network with your peers and visit disaster
recovery vendor displays.
- Topic-specific roundtables that allow participants to
fine tune parts of their organizations' continuity plans.

| Testimonial from Cleveland Indians |
The positive relationship between the Cleveland Indians and the Red Cross Business Emergency Planning Association has helped us to enhance our plans at Jacobs Field for disaster prevention, response, and recovery. These efforts were achieved with the use of tabletop and live exercises involving a variety of potential scenarios. The annual seminar provides a wealth of knowledge and the opportunity to interact directly with the experts in the field.
The Cleveland Indians have an extended history with BEPA, and its predecessor BICEPP. Initially, we worked in concert to study a series of tabletop exercises that involved Cleveland Indians operational, safety and maintenance personnel interacting with the emergency personnel from Cleveland Police, Fire, and EMS. We then expanded these exercises to include front-line security, host-greeter staff, and First Aid personnel. The involvement of all levels of our operational personnel and the lessons learned proved to be invaluable.
Ultimately, BEPA’s guidance led us to a full-scale exercise simulating a mass casualty incident during an Indians game. This exercise involved the mobilization of the Cleveland Fire Department and approximately 15 pieces of fire apparatus, a live decontamination process, Cleveland Police and SWAT, implementation and placement of an Incident Command Center, Cuyahoga County emergency personnel, area hospitals and the Mayor of Cleveland. Invaluable lessons learned.
On a continuing basis through our commitment to the SAC and participation in the annual conference, the Cleveland Indians are proud to be a Gold Sponsor with the Red Cross BEPA program.
