They can affect one person, one family or an entire neighborhood. Are you prepared?

The American Red Cross, a leader in emergency planning and preparedness, has partnered with KeyBank, a financial leader, to ensure our community is prepared and empowered to deal with the unexpected.

Simple, common sense steps to empower you, your family and your business to prepare for the unexpected. Preparing yourself and your family - is the single most important way you can ensure your own safety and recovery from whatever kind of emergency may occur.

The first step is understanding financial responsibility. Some steps you can take now:

  • Protect your familyís health, life and property with adequate insurance
  • Consider disaster vulnerability and minimize your risk before making decisions about relocating or making major purchases
  • Plan financially for the possibility of a job loss or disability. Have three- to six-months salary saved and do not touch it unless there is an emergency.
  • Collect and safeguard your important financial and legal records Prepare your loved ones to weather a disaster even if you are not there to care for them Prepare your business continuity plan along with your personal plan.
  • Take advantage of retirement plans. If you are working, make every effort to contribute the maximum to your 401(k) or 403(b) plan, or open your own IRA if you don't have a retirement plan at work.
