International Services
Throughout the world, families are torn apart by crises such as war, famine and natural disasters. The American Red Cross as part of the Red Crescent Movement, one of the largest humanitarian networks in the world with a presence and activities in almost every country, helps gain information through its Holocaust and War Victims Tracing and Information Center and International Family Tracing Services, as well as Red Cross sister societies throughout the world. It is unified and guided by seven Fundamental Principles. All Red Cross and Red Crescent activities have one central purpose: to help those who suffer, without discrimination whether it be during conflict, in response to natural or man-made disasters, or to alleviate the suffering brought by conditions of chronic poverty.
- All of the Red Cross International Family Tracing Services are confidential and free of charge.
- The Red Cross uses the worldwide network of more than 181 Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the Magen David Adom in Israel.
- The Red Cross also consults museums, archives, and international organizations to further facilitate tracing requests.
- Cases remain open, and if new information becomes available, it is immediately shared with the inquirer.
The Red Cross International Family Tracing Services has provided closure to families in the Greater Cleveland community by finding their loved ones alive or by providing the necessary proof of internment or evacuation to receive restitution.
