Are there basic qualifications one needs to have to be a Red Cross Volunteer?

The basic qualifications vary depending on the project, position, or department one chooses.

Some examples are:

Disaster Action Team Member - Needs to complete training requirements, have excellent oral and communication skills, and demonstrate a willingness to help individuals. You must have a valid driverís license, no criminal conviction, and must be at least 18 years old.

Education & Training Volunteer Instructor - Needs to have the ability to organize materials and equipment and the ability to demonstrate basic skills. Experience in teaching is helpful, but not necessary. Interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse populations are necessary. A willingness to learn and a desire to teach American Red Cross first aid, water safety, and/or safety courses to the public are necessary. Current basic level course certification and fundamental instructor training are required.

Bloodmobile Volunteer - Needs to have legible handwriting, sufficient physical stamina to stand for long periods, and good customer services skills. Some positions in the Blood Services area are regulated which means you need to have required American Red Cross training to perform certain functions.
